He could be transforming into a beast and forgetting the details and - Diavolo hopes - maybe even forgetting himself in the process? And wasn't there something about the fog? Maybe this is normal. Maybe this happens to everyone. But he can't press Doppio for dates and check them against a record of the weather - it's doubtful he'd remember any of them.
